OVERVIEW
SMP Training Centre is a Registered Training Organisation delivering
nationally accredited training courses. This certificate offers
students a holistic approach to caring for the people within
our community. With exceptional industry support and high job
outcomes, this certificate offers students a supportive learning
environment and unique opportunities to develop the physical,
mental and emotional skills associated with this industry.
Students may elect to complete the certificate full-time
(as discussed with the Training Manager, including a field
placement of up to 3 weeks in total), part time over a negotiated
timeframe (including the required field placement) or by distance
delivery (see below). Classes are held monday - thursday from
9:30am to 3:00pm at our training centre.
DISTANCE DELIVERY OPTION
If you are unable to attend in house training, you may choose
to complete the certificate by distance or self-paced learning.
This mode of study involves completing workbooks in your own
time. Please note that a work placement and Manual Handling
assessment may be necessary. Course duration is flexible however,
we request that students complete course requirements within
6 months of enrolling. Support for students undertaking this
mode of study will be via email, telephone, normal mail or
by pre arranged one on one sessions.
HOW TO ENROL
If you would like to apply to undertake this certificate,
request an Enrolment Pack. Alternatively, you can come into
our training centre to complete an application if you wish
and pay the deposit, it would be great to meet you prior to
the commencement of your training.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Students wishing to register for this course need to:
Be willing to participate in workplace experience (un-paid)
up to 3 weeks
Have reading and writing skills to at least year 10 level
Be committed to learning
Have the maturity to ask for help when necessary
Have a genuine respect for all people, including yourself
Have a desire to provide direct care to elderly people
CERTIFICATE FEES
Course Fees $2500.00
To secure your place a deposit of $500.00 must be paid prior
to commencement. Payment may be made in two separate payments
or you can take advantage of our payment plan. If you wish
to take the payment plan option, please complete the application
enclosed in this package. For details of the plan, read the
application form. Other payment options may be negotiated
with the CEO of SMP Training Centre. All fees must be finalised
prior to the student undertaking their field placement or
receiving their certificate. Payments options available are:
cash, cheque/money order, EFTPOS or credit card (Visa, MasterCard).
INDUSTRY REQUIREMENTS
A Police Clearance needs to be obtained prior to work placement
at the cost of the student (please be aware this process can
take up to 6 weeks). This can be obtained by completing the
application enclosed and lodging it at your local police station.
A Senior First Aid Certificate is required prior to commencing
work placement. If you hold a current certificate, a copy
must be submitted with your application and the original must
be sighted by the Trainer to ensure currency. Senior First
Aid Certificates remain valid for 3 years only if proof of
a yearly CPR update can be produced. The trainee will ask
for proof of currency during your enrolment so ensure you
have this evidence as well.
This certificate requires competency to be shown in Manual
Handling. If you havent been assessed for this skill within
the last 12 months, you will be required to provide evidence
to support this.
NO. OF UNITS
Number of units required to complete this certificate total
15 (10 Compulsory units, 5 elective units). Recognition of
Prior Learning is available for some units and this can be
discussed further at your pre enrolment interview. A fee of
$150.00 applies.
DELIVERY STRATEGY
The preferred method of delivery is internal full time mode;
however, flexible delivery options are available. Further
